Alicia Salon’s choreography will lead the gala in Spain

The choreography Muerte de Narciso (Death of Narcissus) by the first assolute ballerina Alicia Alonso will lead the gala that will take place at the University of Navarra, in Spain, in a show entitled Greco-Latin Myths in Dance and Ballet, according to a communiqué from the Cuban National Ballet.

The dance, with music by Julián Orbón and inspired by the poem of the same name by José Lezama Lima, was created by Alicia Alonso in 2010 in homage to the centenary of the Cuban poet.

The work will be performed by the dancer Luca Giaccio, one of the figures of the Bavarian State Ballet, in Munich, Germany, with three performances scheduled for January 31, February 2 and 3 in the amphitheater of the university center.

Luca Giaccio performed the piece at the 23rd Havana International Ballet Festival in 2012, a work that was premiered at the Gran Teatro de La Habana during the previous edition of the event in 2010 and on that occasion performed by Cuban dancer Yanier Gómez.

Alicia Alonso, director of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, is one of the most notable personalities in the history of dance and she is a leading figure in classical ballet in Latin America.
