Arnoldo Fernández Verdecia, born on December 19, 1971. Cuban writer and journalist at Radio Grito de Baire, Contramaestre municipality of Santiago de Cuba province.
He is a member of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), the Sociedad Cultural José Martí (SCJM), the Cuban Union of Journalists (UPEC) and the Café Bonaparte Literary Group in Baire, Contramaestre.
He has a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences and Martí’s Thinking.
He has been awarded with:
– Award in Essay and Criticism at the 34th National Literary Workshop, Camagüey, 2005;
– Special Research Award from the Center for Studies on Martí, at the 29th Seminario Juvenil, in Bayamo, Cuba, 2002;
– Gloria Cuadras Digital Journalism Award, Santiago de Cuba, 2011;
-OX International Award 2011 for disseminating Spanish-language content on the Web with quality;
-Nuestra América Essay Prize, Santiago de Cuba, 2012.
His journalistic writings appear in Rebelión, La Información, Cubarte, Cubadebate, Chamosaurio, Wikio, Las Razones de Cuba, Mesa Redonda, Redes Cristianas, Bitácoras, Juglares, Visión Universitaria and Aporrea.
A sample of his work was published in the books El Maestro en nosotros (“The Master in Us”) and Nombrar a Martí (“Naming Martí”), both by Ediciones Santiago.
His articles appear in the magazines SIC, Caserón, Unión, and in the cultural supplements Cubano Libre, La Campana and the literary bulletin Ideas.
He has published his books: “Leer La Edad de Oro con ojos de mujeres” (“Reading the Golden Age with Women’s Eyes”), “La soledad del oficio” (“The Solitude of the Trade”), and “Orlando Concepción tierra adentro” (“Orlando Concepción Inland”).
